What We Do

Students for Self-Defense is the only national organization with a comprehensive approach to student safety issues and a commitment to advocating for students’ right to self-defense enshrined in the United States Constitution.

Our Mission

Students for Self-Defense is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting students’ rights to defend themselves from bodily harm, advocating for common-sense safety policies at America’s colleges and universities, and connecting students with resources that will help them stay safer on campus.

[S4SD] demands their campus allow students to carry basic self-defense items – everything from mace and knives to stun guns and handguns – arguing their school’s draconian anti-weapons policy is actually dangerous to students.

Rallying under a cry for “no more victims,” a group of Arizona State University students has launched a campaign to pressure the school to repeal its on-campus weapons ban.

Another one of the group’s goals is to encourage ASU to spend some of its security budget on teaching students about safe and proper gun use and situational awareness.

What We Believe

We believe that self-defense is a fundamental human right and that to violate this right is morally wrong.

We believe that colleges and universities have a solemn obligation to prioritize the wellbeing of their students.

We believe that weapons prohibition is ineffective against the lawless and harmful to the law-abiding.

We believe that public colleges and universities have the moral and legal responsibility to respect the entire Bill of Rights.
